Using Yum Behind Firewalls

This article will tell you how to configure your Fedora system so that yum and wget (command line tools used to update/download/install files/software) work for you even if you're behind a firewall.

Step 1: Go to System->Preferences->Internet and Network->Network Proxy.

Step 2: Click on Manual Proxy configuration and enter your proxy server ip and port. Against the port for HTTP proxy is a button that says "Details". Click on it to configure authentication if your proxy requires a login and password.

Step 3: Click Close to close this utility. The proxy settings are saved.

Now you can use yum or wget normally.
