This page describes the installation of the nVidia graphics driver on Fedora 7 using yum. Please note that this is a 3rd party driver downloaded from the livna repository.

Test Environment: nVidia GeForce Go 7400 on Fedora 7 Moonshine

Step 1: Set up the livna repository.

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm

If this doesn't work:

wget http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm
rpm -ivh livna-release-7.rpm

Next, import the GPG keys:

rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-livna

Step 2: Download the kmod-nvidia driver:

yum install kmod-nvidia

Step 3: Reboot your system. You should see an nVidia logo that fills the screen when the X server starts. You can use

livna-config-display

and the GUI based nVidia display settings (Applications->System Tools->NVIDIA Display Settings) to configure the driver.

Note: The Livna repository is incompatible with the Freshrpms repository. If you face problems with liva, then you should uninstall the livna rpm by

rpm -qa livna-release

This will print the name of the package used. Type it below instead of <package-name>

rpm -e <package-name>
