nVidia GTX295 in Fedora 11

PS — This post seems to have become useless with the kernel update. The default PAE kernel on Fedora 11 is incompatible with the nVidia GTX 295. This post is for an old kernel. So before following the instructions, please make sure they indeed apply to you.

Step 1: On a clean installation of FC11 (w/out external repositories added during the installation)

yum update yum
yum install presto fastestmirrors

Step 2: Install dkms drivers (taken from http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...91&postcount=4)

su
yum erase *nvidia* livna-config-display
yum install dkms kernel-devel kernel-headers gcc wget
wget http://www.dfm.uninsubria.it/compiz/fusion-testing/nvidia/i386/nvidia-x11-drv-185.18.31-1.fc11.i586.rpm
yum --nogpgcheck install nvidia-x11-drv-185.18.31-1.fc11.i586.rpm

Step 3: Get the nvidia driver from yum —nogpgcheck update nvidia-x11-drv-190.18-1.fc11.i586.rpm and install it using

yum --nogpgcheck update nvidia-x11-drv-190.18-1.fc11.i586.rpm

step 4: Get hold of the following files (not all are required, but lets do it anyway, for completeness):

kernel-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.src.rpm
kernel-debuginfo-common-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAEdebug-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAEdebug-debuginfo-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAEdebug-devel-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAE-debuginfo-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAE-devel-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm

These can be downloaded from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=113377. But this is a humongous download, so it was pointed out to me by Hllnger that only the following files are strictly necessary:

kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm
kernel-PAE-devel-2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.rpm

Well, that sure brings down the download doesn't it!

Step 5: Install them using

yum --nogpgcheck localupdate kernel*

and reboot—>enjoy.
